Milkwhite Sheets’ tight sheen of shimmering delicacy stretches tautly over unabashed angst. It’s strange how sometimes the most gentle, stripped-down efforts, (such as Isobel Campbell’s acoustic oeuvres), can hold so much aggression without the need to blow a few Marshall amps in the process. Where Campbell’s previous release featured Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age), this third album has Campbell singing solo. The results are piercing and captivating. –Liz Worth
