Bat for Lashes – “Fur and Gold” : Sentimentalist Magazine Review
Like a warm bubble bath, it’s easy to sink into Natasha Khan’s twilight world of faeries, fairy tales, beaches at night, craggy cliffs, glitter and gloom. Like a modern day Beatrice to guide us through our own Divine Comedy, Khan’s dreamy dalliances with wizardry, moonlight, heartbreak, sex, ghosts and horses is enough to warm yon Eskimos in the coldest of wintry days. Now Mercury Prize-nominated, Fur and Gold will enfold, enchant and enrapture, and if you don’t fall in love immediately with “Trophy” (which calls to mind Is This Desire?-era PJ Harvey), the 60’s pop of “What’s a Girl to Do?”, the unrequited love of her “Sad Eyes” and the eerie haunts of “Sarah,” your soul might have more than Purgatory to reckon with. –Carrie Alison
