Uh Huh Her - “I See Red”: Sentimentalist Magazine Review
Leisha Hailey, half of this duo (sporting a name that’s an obvious nod to the great PJ Harvey), is best known for her role on The L Word and for her previous band, The Murmurs. She began this project last year with bassist/keyboardist Camila Grey from Mellowdrone. Songs such as “Run” have achingly soaring, Cure-like melodies and girly harmonies that seem made for TV (as indeed, they may be, since at least one of these tracks has appeared on The L Word). The EP’s title track, “I See Red” and both single-worthy versions of “Say So”, each perfectly suit the Nettwerk label’s roster, with soothing, subtle yet driving electro-pop riffs and sinewy, sing-a-long lines. These kind of breezy relationship songs transcend genre, time and place, and in this case, sexual orientation. The five-song EP and upcoming tours will have to keep fans satiated until the spring 2008 release of the duo’s full-length. More hits to come.--Cleo
