Metric will begin its first US tour in a year in Washington DC on September 19th to preview new material off of the band’s upcoming fourth album, to be recorded this autumn. ”We’ve missed our fans,” says frontwoman Emily Haines. “We haven’t toured in North America for about 18 months and it felt like time to return. We’ve been writing in Toronto for the past few months and we’re really excited to play the new songs for our live audience before we press the record. Music can’t live in a vacuum! Once we finish this run we’re going to start recording our triumphant studio masterpiece.” (Photo by Jenny Lewis)

METRIC ANNOUNCES FALL TOUR TO PREVIEW NEW MATERIAL

BAND READIES FOR FOURTH ALBUM

Last Gang Records and Metric are thrilled to announce the globe-trotting four-piece’s first US tour in over a year. Though the band has been unbelievably busy — writing new material, selling out shows all over Europe and the UK, and working on various solo projects — these will be Metric’s first public performances in The States since the Spring of 2006. The dates, which kick off September 19th in Washington DC, will help the band road-test new material that they have been working on for their fourth album, due out next year.

“We’ve missed our fans,” says frontwoman Emily Haines. “We haven’t toured in North America for about 18 months and it felt like time to return. We’ve been writing in Toronto for the past few months and we’re really excited to play the new songs for our live audience before we press the record. Music can’t live in a vacuum! Once we finish this run we’re going to start recording our triumphant studio masterpiece.” Guitarist Jimmy Shaw adds, “We’ve always found it is really beneficial to road test songs before recording them. It’s also great to give our audience a chance to hear songs in their infancy before they get committed to tape and have to go out into the world on their own. We’re also going to try to make this tour a little more interactive than normal by inviting fans to write our set lists and get in on some other ideas we’re dreaming up as well. Can’t wait to see everybody again, it’s gonna be fun. ”

Metric has spent much of the summer in pre-production at Toronto’s Giant Studios (co-owned by Shaw and Death From Above 1979′s Sebastien Grainger), and looks forward to recording the new album in November and December.

Metric’s most recent endeavor–the official release of their long-shelved, 1999 debut, GROW UP AND BLOW AWAY–currently sits at the Number Seven position on the U.S. Campus Charts and Number Two in Canada. The album, which came out June 26th on Last Gang Records, has been receiving wide praise for its poppy melodies and its insight into the band’s early years. Pitchfork Media wrote that GROW UP AND BLOW AWAY “gives us a chance to get to know [Metric] more intimately…Electro-pop, trip-hop, and good old indie rock underpin Haines’ effortless charisma. Despite its textural richness, it’s feather-light; it’s also comely and stylish. In fact, Metric’s neophyte effort might be their best.”

Last Gang Records’ newest signing, Toronto-based 8-bit thrashers Crystal Castles, will open all the shows up to October 3rd (as well as
San Francisco on the 6th).
