Steve Bays went through a helluva break-up a couple years ago, and luckily for the rest of us, the result is our gain indeed. Written while on the road in Europe and Japan, Happiness Ltd. is a poptastically delightful and gripping chronicle through the five stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance) and onward into allowing the heart to heal, given enough time. The title track, “Outta Heart,” and “Waiting for Nothing” will induce nodding in sympatico, but the agony and ecstasy of “Let Me In” and “Harmonicas and Tambourines” will have you dancing through your tears. Besides old Billy Joel records, this might be the first heartbreak album I bob, clap and snap my fingers to. --Carrie Alison
