An intimate, uncompromising album, The Simple Life is a reflection of just that: everyday living. A blend of bluegrass twinges, artful minimalism, and lush acoustics, Magnet brainchild Even Johansen conveys a sense of impressionable charm with songs like “Lonely No More” and “Volatile.” Clattering drums often leak beyond the margins, giving a haphazard feel to many tracks, creating an astute representation of how unpredictable this album, and the life it represents, can be among even the most serene moments. –Liz Worth
