Matt pond PA - “Last Light” : Sentimentalist Magazine Review
Brace yourself for another bittersweet album about… love. Pond takes us through an acoustic journey about the struggle and loneliness of old loves lost. “Last Light” perfectly describes the treachery of heartbreak with jabbing chords and ephemeral thoughts of self-indulgence. Collaborating with Neko Case (“Taught to Look Away”) saves the album with its hopeless sincerity and precision of thought-provoking lyrics. The remainder of this disc leaves Matt with handclaps and beat guitars to deliver drawn out pleas for love and devotion. This is your stereotypical “I miss my girlfriend” list of songs that you can’t help but listen to. (Altitude) –Michelle Cooper

THough, I do agree that this is a very good album, I highly disagree that this album is all about what you called, “I miss my girlfriend” songs.
In his latest effort, matt pond has kicked away barriers and branched out for new light. With a new lineup, there makes more room for different sounds that contribute to the success of this album. It’s a very versatile album and included the mpPA of three years ago and the new revised matt pond PA.
I highly recommend hearing People Have A Way, Taught to Look Away, and Basement Parties.

Jim,
Thanks for the input. I still think the record has its fair share of “I miss my GF songs.” But it is good to see MP stretching it a bit…
