Win Butler loves her, and so by extension, this honey-voiced “folk siren” who, according to her MySpace page might be “more fun than your very own pony,” will surely find a willing audience with Arcade Fire devotees and those who love unexpected flourishes of melody and instrumentation (plucky piano paired with viola and hand-claps, just for an example, on “I Was a Daughter”). On February 5, 2008 Basia Bulat will release her debut album, Oh, My Darling, on Rough Trade. No word if the mythical “Clementine” is part of the equation, or maybe just a muse, but maybe she’ll just be floating overhead. Sounds good to us. The lovely Ms. Bulat plays New York City’s Joe’s Pub on January 10 with Jeffrey Lewis.
