Dublin’s Angel Pier have a dark pop sound that swirls around cascading, intricate guitar patterns and gentile discordance on this four-song EP. Though they must have their share of Interpol comparisons, they have more mathematical leanings, stepping closer toward the Field Music spectrum of britpop sound. Vocals on the punchy standout chorus of “Sprites” recall a buttoned-up and studious Brandon Flowers. On “My New Best Friend,” singer Darragh Nolan breaks away from any comparisons and does an impressive note by note interplay with the song’s upfront percussion, certainly a feat. This EP is short, sweet, and richer with each listen. –Selina S.
