Livings Things are back on the New York scene and we were lucky enough to catch them this week at Mercury Lounge, a good two months before their upcoming release, Habeas Corpus. The band consists of brothers, Lilian (vocals/guitar), Eve (bass), and Bosh Berlin (drums), along with long time friend Cory Becker (guitar).

The L.A.-based band are set to release their second album, Habeas Corpus, February 17th on Jive Records. The album was produced by the band and Michael Ilbert, and recorded in Berlin, Germany at the infamous Hansa Studios, where the band lived for nine months.  Their latest songs are both provocative & political, brushing on topics of life, money, religion & war in these trying times, and clearly inspired by the historical and political nostalgia of Berlin.

The set was short and sweet, with a medley of songs from the band’s critically-acclaimed first album, Ahead of The Lions, as well as their current sophomore effort.  Opening up with new tunes like “Brass Knuckles”, hard hitting and with a message to “take to the streets,” then flowing right into “Mercedes Marxist”, a mantra to craving the good life. “Let It Rain”, a single and also a set favorite, is also featured as a video, shot by veteran video director Floria Sigismondi (White Stripes, Sigur Ros, David Bowie).

The boys have also been chosen as the opening act for the upcoming Eagles of Death Metal tour, kicking off on Feb 3rd and running throughout the month of February, with a few radio shows thrown in. Don’t miss the live return of the Living Things, coming to a city near you.–Aishah Roberts
