Brendan Benson already had three critically acclaimed albums under his belt long before he became a broken boy soldier with fellow Raconteur Jack White. But just as White is busy with a little band called The Dead Weather at the moment, so too is Benson, getting back to business on My Old, Familiar Friend, due August 18 on ATO Records.

Said to be a “marriage of passion and perfectionism” that thoroughly encompasses Benson and his soulful vocals and melodies, My Old, Familiar Friend was recorded in Nashville and London with producer Gil Norton and mixer Dave Sardy. “A Whole Lot Better” has been slated as the first single, with lyrics such as, “I fell in love with you/ And out of love with you/ And back in love with you/ All in the same day.”

My Old, Familiar Friend follows 1996’s One Mississippi, 2002’s Lapalco, and 2005′s The Alternative to Love.

Summer tour dates are TBA.
