The Wishkah show was alright, and the Unplugged performance has never really faded into the background, so now comes news that the (arguable) pièce de résistance of Nirvana performance footage — their infamous headlining performance at England’s annual Reading Festival on August 30, 1992 — will bow as a limited edition CD+DVD (and singular DVD and CD versions) on November 3, 2009. A 2 LP version will follow two weeks later on November 17, 2009.
According to the press announcement, “only 2 of the 25 performances” of the set captured on the Nirvana at Live at Reading DVD “have ever been released before.” In addition to most of Nevermind, a handful of Bleach material and two cover songs (“The Money Will Roll Right In” by Fang and “D-7” by The Wipers) the band also treated the audience to “early performances of three as yet unrecorded songs which wouldn’t be released until 2 years later on In Utero: ‘All Apologies, ‘Dumb,’ and in its first ever public performance, tourette’s.’”
