The White Stripes will release their heralded documentary Under Great White Northern Lights along with their first-ever live album on March 16.

Filmed during the duo’s whirlwind tour of 2007′s Icky Thump across the provinces and territories of Canada and directed by Emmett Malloy, Under Great White Northern Lights premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2009 but has proven difficult to view to the band’s rabid and impatient fanbase until now.

Pre-sales for a limited-edition box set were announced in December 2009, featured a live DVD of Under Nova Scotian Lights (the band’s 10-year anniversary concert filmed at the historic Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia). The standard edition of Under Great White Northern Lights will contain the 16-song live album (available on CD or vinyl) and companion documentary film, which boasts a “captivating mix of striking live footage and poignant off-stage moments.”

Still no word on the future of the White Stripes however, as The Dead Weather are said to be in the studio working on their follow-up to the critically acclaimed debut, Horehound, and Jack White has started mulling a solo album as of late.
