BSS20101

Broken Social Scene have just confirmed details for their as-yet-untitled new album due May 4, 2010 on Arts + Crafts. Produced by the band and John McEntire (Tortoise), and recorded in Chicago and Toronto, the acclaimed six-piece’s return effort is the follow-up to 2005′s Broken Social Scene, and first since the Presents… series began. A brief tour has been mapped to start on May 1 in San Francisco. Pre-sales for New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco begin today at http://www.GalleryAC.com. Pavement will support on two dates.

The new effort was “written and arranged” entirely by the current BSS line-up consisting of Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, Lisa Lobsinger, Justin Peroff, Charles Spearin, Andrew Whiteman and Sam Goldberg, who produced “nearly 40 songs” worth of material together. And, as per the collective’s revolving-door tradition, will also feature high-wattage guest turns by returning players Leslie Feist, Stars’ Amy Millan and and Evan Cranley, Metric’s Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw, Jason Collett, Ohad Benchetrit of Do Make Say Think and Years, Julie Penner, Marty Kinack, Leon Kingstone and John Crossingham. Additional contributions were made by Sam Prekop of The Sea and Cake, Pavement’s Spiral Stairs, Tortoise’s Doug McCombs, and The Weakerthans’ Jason Tait and many others.

The new album is, “like all Broken Social Scene albums, a record driven by love.” Drew recently gave Pitchfork the lowdown on what is sure to be a major Spring release — which you can check out right here.
