The Strokes are back. Back in the studio, back together and back in the news. Not that we haven’t enjoyed Jules’ dances with synths and Albert’s two solo releases, along with Nickel Eye and Little Joy. But, it’s been a long four years since the release of First Impressions of Earth, and the waiting and wondering has been rough. Today, the band has finally announced that they are in the studio with producer Joe Chiccarelli, hard at work in New York City on the group’s fourth studio album. No release date is set, but rumors point to a late 2010 bow.

As for Strokes tour news, the band will hit the Euro festival circuit in June with performances at Isle of Wight (June 12, U.K.), Rockness (June 13, Scotland), Hurricane Festival (June 18, Germany) and Southside Festival (June 20, Germany). Additional dates for the U.S., Europe and the rest of the world are to come.

The band is also letting fans in on the recording process. Band manager Ryan Gentles took to the band’s official mailing list with the following dispatch:

we’ve decided to do something we haven’t done in the past and bring a small video camera into the studio with us to shoot some footage of the band at work. what you’ll find here is more behind-the-scenes stuff, can’t give away too much music yet, that would spoil the surprise!   all of it is shot by the band, or myself, and edited in-house here on my little computer.  so, it’s a very D.I.Y. project, we prefer it that way, and it keeps the recording sessions much more focused and without the distraction of a big camera crew in there whilst the boys are hard at work

Part one of the studio footage has been posted on the band’s official website and YouTube.
