Brooklyn’s unstoppable cult act Les Savy Fav, fresh off a fiery waterside show at last weekend’s Northside Festival, is releasing their fifth album, Root For Ruin, on Frenchkiss Records this September.  Why is this new 11-song LP called Root For Ruin, you may ask? The news is that this art rock band has built up 15 years of musical experience to “arrive at a diamond-edged sound that’s as upfront and direct as the quintet’s legendary live shows. That goes for everything from the gut-punching percussion and drunken punk subtleties of “Clear Spirits” to the moonlit melodies and restless groove of “Sleepless in Silverlake”.”

The band’s 2007 release, Let’s Stay Friends, released after ten years of working together, rallied together new musicians filling in from such fine rock bands as the Fiery Furnaces, Broken Social Scene, Enon and Modest Mouse, and daringly, even invited fans to sing on some of the tracks over the phone. Root For Ruin, however, finds Les Savy frontman Tim Harrington, bassist Syd Butler, drummer Harrison Haynes, and guitarists Seth Jabour and Andrew Reuland keeping to themselves and their tightly-wound quintet to create their own madness.
