Soars released their self-titled debut on October 1st on the label with the gem of a name, La Société Expéditionnaire, and that day, the four band members, along with some friends, drove up from the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania to play at Glasslands in Brooklyn. Their style was perfectly captured in the above photo by Calli Higgins, (who was gracious to share her image with us).

Their sound is a stop motion-captured explosion of a fiery flower that the band unfolds, an onslaught of both bitter and beautiful, fully-realized melodies. Their set has at least three songs that get one to a catatonic dance mania or quiet contemplation, whatever your personal preference.  Tonight, the attention of everyone in the small space was arrested and focused on Soars.

This foursome (ahem, quartet), is made up of the singer/guitarist Chris Giordani (the most visible as he is often in the center of the stage), keyboardist Briana Edwards, bassist David Kresge and Anthony Perrett (guitarist).

For those who may have missed their record release party, Soars return to NYC for CMJ Music Marathon 2010 next week.  Don’t miss this band that’s fast become one of Sentimentalist Magazine’s current favorites.
