Lollapalooza, the alternative music festival that launched in 1991 as a summer traveling tour, and then was reborn as an August weekend fest in Chicago, is pitching its tents in Santiago, Chile this April. Bringing the festival to international turf has been one of founder Perry Farrell’s dreams since Lollapalooza began 20 years ago.

Lollapalooza Chile will touch down on April 2 and 3 at O’Higgins Park in Santiago. As with all other Lollapaloozas, it will be produced by Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction, the festival founder, but for this event, it will also work in conjunction with Lotus Producciones, a Chilean promoter, along with the William Morris Endeavor agency and C3 Presents.

The first artist lineup has just been announced. Besides past Lolla favorites such as Farrell’s old band Jane’s Addiction, headliners will also include Kanye West, the Killers, 30 Seconds to Mars (hello Jared Leto, didn’t I just spot you at Enid’s last night?), Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Flaming Lips and more. There will, of course, be an array of Chilean performers to create a cultural exchange.

Other artists performing: Deftones, Fatboy Slim, Cypress Hill, 311, Cold War Kids, the National, Ben Harper, Armin Van Buuren, Sublime with Rome, Empire of the Sun, CSS, Los Bunkers, Cat Power, Devendra Banhart, the Drums, Boys Noize, Steel Pulse, Fischerspooner, PerryEtty vs. Chris Cox (Farrell’s electronic side project), Mala Rodriguez, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Datarock, Todos Tus Muertos, Bomba Estereo, Ghostland Observatory, Joachim Garraud, Francisca Valenzuela, Zeta Bosio, Anita Tijoux, Quique Neira, Latin Bitman, DJ Raff, Toy Selektah, Fractal + Joe Vasconcellos, Fother Muckers, Astro, Devil Presley, Denver, Como Asesinar a Felipes, the Ganjas, Matanza, Ital, New Kids on the Noise, Magictwins, Los Pulentos, Achu, Cuchara, Mundano and Los Plumabits.

  1. Speaking of Enid’s, Jennifer Conolly was there last night, so I’m thinking they are both either a) just going to Enid’s like all the other hip-os or b) are totally doing research for their roles in a new Darren Aronofsky film that will absolutely stamp out any desire for anyone to be a hipster, similarly to how his previous films eliminated the desires to be a mathematician, a junky or a ballerina.
