Arctic Monkeys’ frontman Alex Turner hasn’t just picked up from Brooklyn and gone into hiding in the UK. Before going into the studio for the new Arctic Monkeys album, he took time out to write six original songs for the British film Submarine, an official selection at Sundance last month. The EP will be released by Domino Records on March 15, 2011.

Submarine, a coming-of-age comedy set in Swansea, follows 15-year-old Oliver Tate (played by Craig Roberts) “through the impending break-up of his parents’ marriage and his first relationship.” It’s the debut film of Richard Ayoade, and based on the novel by Joe Dunthorne. The film, which opens in British cinemas on March 18th, was a Official Festival Selection at Sundance last month.

The EP will be available in North America via digital download.
