The Village Voice has produced the Siren Music Festival at Coney Island, NY for ten strong years and this year, it’s time to shake things up.┬áIn 2011, The Village Voice will launch the inaugural 4Knots Music Festival, on Saturday, July 16th at the South Street Seaport. The festival, which gets its clever name from the fact that the East River runs at a speed of 4 knots, running between every borough and culminating at South Street Seaport, will, like Siren, be free, open to all ages, and take place no matter what the weather holds. The full lineup announcement will be made in the next few weeks.

The 4Knots Music Festival will feature today’s well-known and emerging artists performing during a full-day lineup. The tip of Manhattan, where the 4Knots Music Festival will be held, will be a much easier trek for most than the long subway ride to Coney Island and obviously, won’t have the rollercoaster or rides, but still offers a view of the water as well as other attractions, shops and restaurants.
