Tulipomania – ‘The Whispering Campaign’

post image

Tulipomania isn’t a band that will be here one day, gone the next. They seem to exist in their own shadowy, intriguing bubble. They’re already on their fourth release, The Whispering Campaign, and without any twitter buzz or chat being bandied about to bloggers in cities around them, they prove that the music they play is, most importantly, what they want to play, pandering to nobody.

What’s Down This Weekend?

What to do tomorrow:

  • Get down with The Occupation Party, presented by the Danger List folks with a swizzle hot flier made by Shepard Fairey.
  • If you’d like to instead just go and simply hear some kick ass music and drink some get down with Davila 666, Acid Baby Jesus, Sweet Tooth, Cassie Ramone and XRAY EYEBALLS at 285 Kent ave.
  • Watch some Creator stuff.
  • Never use swizzle again.

Get down with The Occupation Party, presented by the Danger List folks with a swizzle hot flier made by Shepard Fairey. Now, some have noted that this is the first “big name artist” to get behind the Occupy Wall Street movement, I guess Russell “I’ll Clean It Up” Simmons doesn’t count:

S.C.U.M – ‘Again Into Eyes’

A Place to Bury Strangers Playing Inside a Miniscule Doll’s House for CMJ

I saw them open, playing way before the Kills just a month or two ago at Terminal 5. I’ve seen them at every Brooklyn venue and that of Manhattan before that, and now, they are back again, playing to a Japanese girl’s foot-sized venue near the BQE. I guess we should applaud them for signing back to a true indie label, Dead Oceans, but how will all of us fans fit into that pinhole room?

The Elusive Balam Acab to Tour the U.S. This November and December

post image

Last winter, the songs of BALAM ACAB (aka Alec Koone), were our go-to after hours songs, spun for many a random party in the Sentimentalistmag/S!CK party HQ. That fantastical dark sound! The ghostly voice! The deceivingly catchy beats! The debut Ep See Birds definitely found its fans here. This fall, Tri Angle released BALAM ACAB’s Wander/Wonder, his debut, on September 6th…

Mr. Dream to Play Some Slick CMJ Showcases and Tour Follows

post image

Sure, they’ve got a couple of former Pitchfork writers in their band and their debut album, Trash Hit, (released in March), got some peachy accolades from the likes of Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Fader, Impose and all, but hey, don’t be a hater.

The Teeth Rotting Sweet Beats of Haajen-Dazs

Not just a talented beat maker and collaborator Nico Haajen-Dazs also intuitively understands modern life and the purpose of twitter, these things still somewhat escape me but this is what I think the twitter bird was made for:
