A masked man’s efforts should be shifty, menacing and comforting at once. Zomby’s latest, the exquisite producer’s first release for fab label 4AD, is like sitting at home and hearing the dark, interactive play Sleep No More come to life in your headphones, but with your own actors rather than some hammy dancers running up and down steps and miming overwrought scenes from the Scottish play. Characters and themes wax and wane, leading in one seemingly clearcut direction only to flit into tremors of fearsome beats. Eerie bits and bobs rear their captivating heads and then dissolve into stretches of oddly blissful vocals and waterfall synths, or occasional, solemn piano. Dedication is all you want in an electronic album: it’s absorbing, crisp, dance-friendly and above all, never dull. (4AD)
