XL Recordings signs Willis Earl Beal, Listen to “Evening’s Kiss”

post image

Per the above sketch, immersed in American folk art and Harlem Renaissance ether, I expected something a little more jazzy or bluesy than what followed. After hearing his “Evening’s Kiss,” Beal’s softly sad, underspoken, and minimally-ranging voice felt less about grander statements and more about experiences…

As synthy and poppy as the name suggests, Pretty Good Dance Moves will be bringing their strobey sounds into 2012 with Limo (an album in eight “movements”) on February 7th. Limo features Brazilian Girls’ Sabina Sciubba throughout, her voice already proven to inspire all sorts of great movements…

Miike Snow Drops “Devil’s Work,” ‘Happy To You’ LP Announced

post image

Post-ABBA music history teaches that Swedish musicians take pop extremely seriously. Miike Snow, following suit, released their 2009 self-titled rookie: the sincere singles were swallowed whole, lightening the vacuous caverns of primetime television soundtracks for Gossip Girl and the reboots of Melrose Place and 90210…

Die Antwoord to release TEN$ION, Line of Toys, US Tour

post image

I’m still caught up with this album art. Yo-Landi Vi$$er never seemed like a fallen angel to me, but her large inky eyes and appetite for freshly-acquired, oversized hearts also ring of an alien. If the Alien-Angel is an accurate composite of Die Antwoord’s upcoming TEN$ION, I’ll set up an autosearch for leaks as soon as this is posted.
