Despite only having one album, London’s The xx utterly captivated a sold-out Bowery (moved from Mercury Lounge) with their dark and fragile sound that reverbed throughout the dimly lit venue (so dim that frontwoman Romy Madley Croft had trouble locating her chords and asked to turn the mood lighting up a notch!)

The line for the highly ballyhooed buzz band of this year’s CMJ festival, The xx, at the Mercury Lounge, wrapped around the corner of Houston and Ludlow on Wednesday night. At one point the door minders only allowed badge-holders and guestlisters entry, much to the dismay of hopeful attendees who had waited on line for over an hour.
CMJ Confirms Full Music and Film Lineup
The full artist and film lineup for the 2009 CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival was confirmed today, with new performers such as YACHT, Joan As Police Woman, Busta Rhymes and Mercury Prize winner Speech Debelle joining the bill.
